.45-60 range report

Got to the range today with the .45-60. Screws for the tang sight showed up late yesterday so I put it on quick. Couldn’t get the left-right correct when sighting it in, changed every shot, then I noticed the little detent ball and spring that hold the stem tight, wasn’t!! So I dug through the trash can and cut a couple shims out of a plastic coffee cup lid. Good temporary fix!! Results with two different loads, 29 grains of 4198, and 27 grains of 5744, both with 300 grain cast!

I was happy with both loads but the 4198 is the winner! 4198 is just a little slower burning than the 5477. The action operates like a typical toggle link, you have to work it with authority or it won't feed right, but after a few rounds it seemed to smooth out and feed better. I bought this as a used gun, but I don't think it was shot much.
I'm pleased!! Thanks Enzo!!  B)
