Bella and Buddy arrived on Sat. Bella (right) is a 14 year old paint sorrel mare which is my new ride. Buddy (left)is an 18 year old gelding sorrel quarter horse which is my wife’s new ride. She’s never ridden so I wanted a bomb proof horse that wouldn’t spook.

We’ve been riding them around the ranch and they ride very well. My wife will start horse back riding lessons this weekend.

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

Good for you!  Man I miss my horses!  Funny I spent this past Sunday cleaning and conditioning all our tack.  Thanks for motivating me to start looking for a local place to ride…

Nice.  Bomb proof is what I would need.  I haven't sat in the saddle since I was 18.  I hope her lessons turns her into a great rider.

Very nice looking tack.  I need to work on mine as well to clean it up.  What did you use to clean your up?

Jerry, it's been a few years since I'd ridden. I had a couple of bad habits I needed to work out and then I was on my way!  Silly little things but they were there.

Thanks!  Took over a year to have our saddles made.  Good buddy of ours was a saddle maker and a respected award winning member of the Academy of Western Artists.  Unfortunately he passed away tragically soon after he finished them so they are very special to us and irreplaceable.  Mines the one on top on the 2 saddle rack.  We used the Quincey Down Under rig as a model for mine since I wanted it 1800s period correct.  My wife’s is a Wade style fully carved, you can see some of his work on the saddle pockets peeking through.   I should take good pictures of hers because it’s really nice!  I feel bad mine is covering it from view.

I follow the regime he recommended with Lexol cleaner followed by Lexol Neatsfoot oil used sparingly.   These are almost 20 years old and they got a LOT of miles of trails and training on them when we owned the ranch, need to put them back to use soon.
