This sucks Covid scare

I'm not sure how I'm ever going handle getting sick moving forward.  Last week I came down with a sinus infection.  As that cleared I began to get the hard dry cough in my chest just like when I came down with Covid.  I was vaccinated for Covid, Phenomena and the Flu this past Feb.  This weekend my 02 was in the low 90's and high 80's and I was coughing more.  I have an appointment with Pulmonary doctor the middle of July.

I went to the doctors and had a Covid test done which was negative as my doctor told me it would be.  After my exam she told me I have bronchitis.  This is normal as I usually get  a case of bronchitis once a year.  I got a steroid shot in my tender rear ender and a prescription to take for the next seven days.  My doc thinks I have restrictive lung disease, where my lungs aren't inflating all the way.  I get winded really easily.  My buddy did some research on it for me.  Actually I think we were both reading the same article.  They're beginning to do a lot of testing and recommend enriched O2 therapy sessions in hyperbaric chamber for Covid long haulers.  Hopefully my pulmonary doc has a good plan of action.

Moving forward this is going to suck every time I get sick and get a cough!  Is it just a cold, bronchitis or has it comes back.  It drives my wife nuts that I truly don't worry about many things.  When I'm troubled I just give my worries to god and don't think about them much or again.  I gave this to god many times this weekend and it kept boomeranging right back to me with every cough.  I'm hoping it's not my new norm.

Most of the patients I have cared for who suffered the more severe covid symptoms as you did are reporting long term problems related to lung damage caused by the virus. Some are still requiring oxygen 6 months after hospital release. Some are experiencing bouts of bronchitis like symptoms that they never had before. Some are reporting fatigue that just does not seem to improve.
The reality of it is you likely will be more susceptible to respiratory illness going forward and will need to be vigilant in maintaining healthy habits.

Dang you sounded just like my doctor yesterday. Hopefully over time I’ll improve little by little.
    Thx

I’ll pray for a fast recovery fir you and yes this might be your new normal for a while.  You can’t be blamed after what you went through.

But you can give yourself a better chance by boosting your immune system.  Taking a daily zinc and vitamin D supplement has helped everyone in my house skate through year after year cold, flu etc. free.  It was specifically helpful when the kids were in school and I had to commute in crowded trains every day.

I firmly believe it’s what kept me Covid free even though I was exposed to large groups every weekend while teaching CC classes non stop.  I’ve had my two shots but I still take a zinc a D vitamin pill every night.

    just some comments....

a former co-worker had same of the same issues as you...with teh bronchitis and such.  This happened when he was stressed out and during the winter too.

but one day it went from bronchitis to pneumonia.  You may want to be careful since you really dont want to go there. its just 1 level worse.

before he never had pneumonia, but after that 1st time, it became easier for it to happen - again and again just like you got the bronchitis.

    good luck

Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and prayers!  Since my 40-day stay at the hospital last fall, I have a daily regimen of vitamin D 15,000 units which has taken my vitamin D from very low to the high scale, C 1000 mg, Zinc.  My doc has my vitamin levels where she wants them.  With my steroid shot I now have uncontrollable hiccups.  Going to get a thorazine pill from her in the morning to cure that!

Getting older is not for the faint of heart!

I'm extremely prone to pneumonia and pretty much any lung problem that exists. A few years ago I went to the ER 10 times in 14 months for what I thought was bronchitis. The Dr there told me that I needed to see a pulmonary Dr so I got a referral and eventually went. After a bunch of tests, including lung function he sat down with me to tell me that I had allergy induced asthma and my lungs were being easily inflamed and causing what I thought was bronchitis. He put me on 180mg Allegra once a day and it's changed my life. Unfortunately I have to see another pulmonary Dr now because they found a mass on my right lung. CT scan is later today but I wish you the best because I understand that fear. Thats how I am with pneumonia.

Wow, very sorry to hear.  I'll keep you posted on my pulmonary appointment I have on the 15th.  I don't get allergies, for the past two months my wife has had me on Claritin every two weeks and then she switch me to Allegra.  Not sure if it's doing anything.  I'll add you to my prayers.

Does not detract.  Just a reminder that we all need a little prayer support sometimes…
