Back to open sights?

Maybe. I've got a Marlin 22WMR and Mossberg 352 22-shv-L-LR that both had old cloudy junk scopes.

More to come.
I removed them. Found out the Marlin has a brass bead.

But its a drift adjustable dovetail. No bueno at the range. At home only.
The Mossberg has a windage ajust screw.

Today's clear scopes are inexpensive, but I think I may try the open sights first. I bore sighted both to get them close. The Marlin's rear is as high as at can go. The Mossberg is about in the middle. Both look to maybe shoot a bit left. We'll see. Won't hurt to try. Can't say when it'll be, but a starts a start.

I'm a big fan of open sights (peep and buckhorn).  At least for 100 yards and less. Scopes don't look good on a lever action and interfere with the carrying of the rifles.  My 99 Savages used to have a 4x scope but no longer.

I'm not a hunter so don't need to go with exact placement on game so that's a responsibility I don't have to worry about. When I bought my Winchester 250 it had a 1/2" scope on it, el cheapo but that was about it in 1964. Somehow in the distant past that scope got lost and not fondly remembered.

That Mossberg has a very unique stock.
What is the model number of the marlin? It looks like a tube fed 25

The fore end is plastic with a coil spring assembly to keep it folded up. Pull down and it its like an extra grip or sturdy monopod. The rest is solid walnut. It has some blemishes and repairs.

The magazine has an adjustable follower to cycle shorts, longs or long rifle.

If you'd been with me this weekend you would have seen me whacking away with a brass bunch and a small ball-**** hammer at both my Marlin 39 and 94.  I don't know how to adjust drift sights without test firing to make sure they are on and I'm not leaving the range until I'm on.

I think I can adapt a screw clamp type tool to drift it. Its not for sure. I'll take my kit when I put it to paper.

On older guns I normally will try it at home first to make sure you can.  Some of them are “welded” in place with old caked oil, dirt and rust so I’ll drift them out completely and clean the sight and dovetail and re-install after I know I can actually move it to adjust.

That's a good idea. I may try that next weekend.

    Got it.

I used Kroil, isopropyl alcohol, an old SKS front sight tool, a brass punch, some washers, and scotch tape, and a file. :tooth:

Took the sight off, removed the post, cleaned it. Reinstalled. Moves good. Still gonna be a pita at the range.

I have NO idea because pee is an acceptable word.  I might have removed pee fro the list but missed **** because I wasn’t looking for it.

Maybe it's too close to penis and it's just being safe.....wait....did that really happen?

Yeah that’s probably it.  Again, we took Penis of the list, wasn’t thinking of all the alternatives…

That should be a pretty easy one - it's got that nice, wide, flat base and overlap.

Take a pencil with you and make some reference lines on either side of the screw heads.  Shouldn't take much time at all to figure out where it needs to be.

Pencil and a hammer in the range bag and you are good to go.
It's boring, and your lack of creativity knows no bounds.
