I feel like JunkCollector now!

With his vintage ammo. 
Found this at a gun store just now. 

I assume they would still be good and the price was good for either nostalgia or actual use in reloading in I ever run out of my newer primers.

    Primers are usually sealed and the stay good for a looooong time.  They should go bang.

    Safety glasses and hammer test then load away
    BTW the bang is louder than you'd think.

    Those are probably from the 60's as they aren't safe for the children :smile:

    I had a brick of small pistol primers from 40 years ago that I gave to my shooting buddy.  So far as I know, they shoot fine. That price seems high, especially if it's correct for the time.
    Concealed carry is for protection, open carry is for attention.

    That’s not the period pricing. 
    $30 for 900 (was missing a flat) primers ain’t bad these days.

    You can always try what I did.  I decided that I needed to fire a primer just to try out a trigger job I did one now if my guns.

    BUT, I didn’t want t alarm my wife so I took one of her one billion decorative couch pillows and went to the basement thinking if I fire into the pillow it’ll just muffle the sound…

    Do you have ANY idea how flammable those damn decorative pillows are?  Yeah I didn’t either… 

    It’s a °IIIII° thing 😎

    No idea how old these are but the tray is made of wood. They still fire just fine.

    His buddy must have put a bullet over a primer with no powder. Did that once a long time ago when I first started hand loading.

    Just an FYI.....a terrycloth bath-towel wrapped around  the muzzle of a 22LR doesn't silence it much but, under the right ambient conditions, makes for a great fire starter. Learned that from a guy I really trust.

    The primer could be forced backwards at a faster rate than the case. Leaving it to protrude in a troublesome manner.

    This.  Without the case backing up against the breech during full recoil the primer will just back itself right out of the pocket firmly locking up the cylinder.

    Speaking of primer busting, does anyone remember when one of the reloading company, maybe Speer offered a parlor-style bullet, all plastic wad cutter style that you could seat with your thumb and a primer. You could shoot maybe 5 yards. You could recover the bullets and use them again. Good to teach trigger control and pretty fun, although these days with the price of primers and their poor availability renders them useless.

    I have a bunch of wax bullets that fire from modified 38 Spl cases that use a 209 primer. They will definitely go more than 5 yards and are surprisingly accurate.

    Yep I shot those in my basement all the time.   You could either buy their plastic vases or use modified brass.

    I had a dozen cases that I drilled the flash hole out to a larger diameter and I painted them black so I would not reload them with the good cases.  That’s how I learned about primers backing out.  If you didn’t drill a larger flash hole on regular cases the gun would lock up with every shot.

    I shot those too except I made my own.  Again modified cases with the flash holes drilled out.  You melt wax in a cookie sheet let it harden a little bit while still soft you push the unprimed cases into the wax like a cookie cutter.  Let the wax finish hardening and pop them out. Prime them and fire.  Important that you prime AFTER wax, the other way around does not work well.

    The ones I have are fairly stout, shot into a soft backstop and they can be reused. They will punch through cardboard at basement distances.

    They’re probably wax and other stuff. Pure wax will absolutely go through cardboard.  I would collect them all remelt them and start again.  Great for practicing quick draw with single actions.

    Sorry. Forgot to check back on this thread. But yea, the other guys covered it. The primer will back out and have nothing to reseat it, so it jams the cylinder up...

    I know a guy that killed goose with those plastic Speer bullets with a large rifle magnum primer in the plastic case… at about 10 yards. Punched  a nice hole right through it. A 357 marlin rifle was used. 
    Aim higher, or get a bigger gun.
