Fishing

Been a long time since I’ve posted any fishing pics. We had a great spring, summer and now fall fishing in NE South Dakota. While dodging track meets, softball games, high winds, part time work, and now volleyball, we managed to get the boat on the water quite a bit. In February I got to fish with another retired friend in Florida. I’m still debating whether or not to dive into ice fishing full time. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pictures.

I fished Bitter Lake in late June, best walleye fishing I’ve ever had.

They just opened up that beer in Texas. Doesn’t have to be smuggled in anymore.  I don’t mind it. But, not a favorite. However, the guys are going crazy over it for some reason.
    Oh well.

    Excellent fishing!!!

I got zero fishing time in the last two years.  Actually contemplating selling ALL my fishing gear and just buying one nice fly rod.

I’m glad you’ve had some salt time!

Every time my son comes in to visit from AZ he puts Yuengling beer at the top of “favorite foods” for mom to stick the house with while he’s with us.  Apparently none in AZ either.

That's funny. Back a few years we used to fly RF-4Bs with the station 3 camera removed out west to bring back Coors; I did not think it was worth the effort.

One time while stationed in Japan we flew to the Philippines to buy a Pappa-san chair and brought it back in station 3. There was a regular F-4 Squadron there and the CO came out shaking his head in disbelief to watch us put that chair in the nose of the aircraft.

I'd advise against 'diving in' to Ice Fishing, but that's just me...

I used to wonder just how bad it could be at home to make one want to go ice fishing, but I have a BIL now who loves to go ice fishing.  Still, not saying it's right, but I understand....

Gets you out of the house in the winter, fishing can be great sitting in a comfy chair, not hard to keep beverages cold, you can drive right up to the fishhouse, you can go simple or luxurious

Don't know about elsewhere, but in Michigan one would need to be concerned about the drunk / idiot snowmobilers running into your shanty at 100mph.

On a lighter note, the Coast Guard seems to be pretty responsive to rescuing a fair number of ice fishing persons who end up trapped on loose ice flows each year.  That must add a little excitement to the activity.

I have nothing against people who enjoy the sport, I'm just being funny (or at least that was my intent).
I enjoy top water fishing for Bass, Catch and Release.  I don't eat fish very often, so ice fishing or spearing for Pike or Muskie would not be in my wheel house.

Ice fishing makes trolling difficult, and it's hard to drink beer with mittens on!!!!  B)

One thing the Coasties are not responsive to is retrieving vehicles left out on the ice when breakup happens....snowmobiles, ATVs, even pickups and SUVa get left on the ice flies every year...salvage companies charge big money to pull your vehicle off the ice...even more to haul it up off the bottom...and then there's the DNR that's going to fine you a few thousand a day as long as your vehicle sits on the bottom....
