My .350 Legend Winchester XPR

I live in lower Michigan where they just recently changed the deer gun laws for the shotgun zone. I can only use my Winchester model  70 Featherweight .308 and model 94 30-30 up north, but lately I have been having better luck at home on my own property with a shotgun, crossbow and muzzle loader. We can now use certain .35 cal or larger straight wall rounds in a rifle like .357 Mag, .44 Mag, 45 Colt, .460 S&W, .350 Legend, .450 Bushmaster and maybe some others with a case length between 1.16" and 1.80". I used my buddies Ruger American .450 Bushmaster last year and took a buck with it, I thought I would give the .350 Legend a try.

The gun was made in Portugal at the Browning Viana factory, this is the Sporter Titanium model and it is not on the Winchester web site for some reason, I was surprised to see it at my local dealer 5 miles down the road. You can also get it with a blued barrel if you prefer. It has a recessed crown and adjustable trigger pull and trigger stop, factory set at 3 1/2 pounds.

There are several variations of the .350 available but I like walnut stocked guns, most are composite plastic. The .350's and .450's are selling like crazy in my area. I got a Leupold 3x9 Freedom scope mounted and got it zeroed in. I'm quite happy with the results, I can get sub 1" groups at my 90 yard range, same as my .308.

    Good deal. Many are having trouble getting the .350 Legend to group well.

    Nice looking rifle. I've been intrigued by the 350 Legend but there has been a fair bit of growing pains it seems. Enough so to keep me from biting so far. Glad to see it is working out well for you.

    Thanks for the posting help Wambli Ska, I edited my picture post above. My digital bathroom scale says 7.4 pounds with the scope, my digital postal scale shows 7 lbs 9 oz.

    You must be concerned about reloading, I don't shoot my deer rifles enough to reload for them. I think a few boxes of ammo will last the rest of my life. The only thing I reload is .38/.357's.

    Lovely setup. Maryland did the same thing last year. I thought the 450 Bushmaster was a bit excessive. Kind of like a 3" 12ga slug. I threw together a 350 Legend AR with an FAL style adjustable gas piston. So far I have been generating Winchester Brass. I have it dialed in with the hunting load and blasting away with the White Box. Working up some loads for Lehigh XP's but will probably need a less voluminous powder than lil gun. 30-31 grains are about all it will take. People have been getting 3,000+fps with the 90grn Lehigh's. Might become my new HD round!!! I went with a forward projector brake to minimize hearing damage while hunting.

    Check the Winchester brass carefully.  I had a lot come up short after sizing.

    Yes I noticed that as well. It seems to come short. Trimmer just barely skims half after 2-3 loadings. I haven't had any issues with them feeding or firing so I'm not going to worry about it. I check them all with the trimmer each time.

    The Winchester ammunition I was using would come out with a sized length of 1.690"-1.720".  I would say that maybe 20% would come out in the 1.700"-1.710" after sizing.  Most of my Starline brass is around 1.705" new and seems to not really shrink after fire forming.  I need to start playing with that rifle again.  I was side tracked with bigger things and due to some issues need to be sure I have a back up for deer season.

    I'll have to see if Starline brass is available again. A few months ago almost anything 350 Legend was unobtanium!!! Brass! Out of stock no idea when, Case trimmer! I found one online for twice the normal price, Ammo!!! 2-3 times original price if you could find it.
