I tore down the bolt on my Savage Axis 30/06 to try to find out why I'm getting a lot of misfires the primer looks like its getting hit good but I tore the bolt down to clean it and on reassembly what kind of lube should I use

Powdered  graphite. That stuff is super messy so be sparing but it works. Make sure it’s dry with NO OIL it will clump and gets nasty if it contacts oil…

I've used a light film of synthetic 5w20 motor oil for years without a problem.

The graphite is a great recommendation, especially for cold weather hunting. The synthetic oil or atf is also a good one.

I don’t lube bolts.  Grease and oil attract gunk and ultimately just slow down the firing pin.  Maybe a bit of grease on the sear surface but that’s it.

I put a small dab of grease on the locking lugs, and that's it.  The firing pin assembly and bolt interior gets clean and dried.
    Meh.

Light coat of CLP on the spring and striker as a rust preventative, as well as some squished into the extractor plunger.  Coat of grease on the locking lugs, rails, and cam surface.

This. Except I use Synthetic ATF and TW25B Grease.

On both my working and personal rifles and pistols. Works like a champ.

I have been using the same since you posted about it several years ago.  Still using the same quart.

Oh yeah, I too use a rag with some ATF to wipe down the spring and firing pin before I reassemble, but I don’t really think of that as lubrication.  Pretty much just moisture protection.

Lithium grease works pretty well as a lube if you want to be all natural.
