  Have you looked at the Savage models in  223?.  Some are pretty basic but accurate out of the box

  Yes looking at them now since I don't see any signs of the REM 700 stainless 5-R which I really like

  and no threaded on that one. Heard bad results in accuracy with the Ruger Ranch 223

  You used to be able to get a Remington 700 ADL fairly inexpensive then change add whatever you like and spend as little or much as you want and have an accurate rifle

  Savage has 9 heavy barrel,non threaded , 223 rifles in their catalog.

  I was looking at the Savage 110 Varmint  Heavy barrel adjustable comb and pull  .AccuStock rail system secures the action three-dimensionally along its entire length. Anyone have any experience with this model. I have a older 110 tactical in .308 and it performs well.

  Brno is indeed in the Czech Republic.  Also known as CZ.  Another choice would be the Savage 25, Walking Varminteer.  I've got one in .22 Hornet and it's very accurate, got the Savage Accu-trigger and a laminated wood stock, removable magazine and isn't especially heavy.

  BF,

  Three action screws are not necessarily better than two, and Savage triggers leave a lot to be desired  from my point of view.

  Savage rifles typically shoot well, as will Remington, Tikka, Bergara, and Howa.

  I have been even seeing Ruger rifles turn in some nice groups.

  A good bedding job, recrown, and a better trigger will typically improve factory rifles.

  Of course, the nut behind the gun always makes a difference.
  

  A factory rifle is still a factory rifle, and some will just shoot better....Luck of the draw from one to the other.
  

  What kind of accuracy 3 or 5-shot groups are you wanting at 100 yards?

  What size groups do you consider good?

  Do you reload?

  I have had a number of Savages, both 10s and 110s and used them to put together rifles that suited my needs...Pre Accustock and Accutrigger...Tossed the stocks and installed them in either Carlson stocks or a Stockade custom stock..
  Replaced the triggers with Rifle Basixs Triggers...No need to mess with the barrels...they were sub-MOA out of the box and were even tighter after my modifications...

  Ernie I do reload just starting again do to high ammo costs. Powder is the problem ,hard to get locally  found some on Midway USA but after the Hazmat and shipping fees was about $70 a pound so I said NO WAY. Glad I stocked up on bullets and Primers years ago as I have more than enough to last my lifetime.

  I did spot a Kimber heavy barrel.223 bolt action with scope in the used rack at a gun shop locally for $699 . I Didn't want used, not knowing how many rounds when down that barrel . It may have been a super buy at that price knowing Kimber start at over $1200

  Are you sure?  When I was there (3 years ago) suppressed rifles were ok but all pistols with threaded barrels were verboten.

  I doubt a Kimber .223 has had too many rounds through it.  The price sounds good...wood or plastic stock?

  yes uncle fester stupid law silencers are legal still CT doesn't want you get have one so they made all threaded barrels illegal. I have a Pre Ban FAL   so I can can still get on for that.

  My hatred for authority and stupid laws would drive my desire to bypass that stupidity somehow. I'd make a threaded adapter that can be removed easily or something that skates their BS.
