I can't pick my two new guns up from my local FFL yet.

He is a local gunsmith. He has informed me by email that one of his children tested positive for COVID this week. I was just in his shop a week ago without a mask on. I'm not vaxxed. I hope I don't come down with this. So far, I have no cold/fever-like symptoms. He says he will let me know when he is tested clear of this disease so I can come in and pick my guns up. I told him by email that I hoped for a speedy recovery for his child.

Now as a consumer who has already paid for the guns, how long can the FFL delay the transfer legally before I can have some kind of legal recourse against "somebody" myself? This gunsmith is a mom and pop operation who apparently doesn't have anybody else employed in his shop. I chose him over the local gun shop I used to use because his FFL transfer fees are cheaper.  I now realize I got what I paid for when I elected to use a cheaper FFL. The local gun shop I used before was fully staffed with several people to do transfers.

Wait...are you seriously complaining about this? You are old enough to understand that "Stuff happens" and the fact that you're talking about "legal recourse" tells me something about you as a human being...

There is no time limit.  You just need to weather it and allow him his quarantine period.

If he's not open to meet your needs within 19.5 hours you can invoke the I'm a douche clause and demand he not only transfer the guns to you but also pay for your hardship with a solid slap upside your head.

I figure if this is not resolved in a timely fashion, he can ship the guns over to another FFL in my town. Is two weeks reasonable time to wait on the gunsmith? His family medical problems aren't my economic liability. Well, I'll be patient for now. Hopefully, time won't drag too long before I ask a civil attorney some questions about this. Suffice it to say, I had better just stick with my former FFL in the future, my LGS, and pay the $40 price per gun transfer. The gunsmith only charges $30 per gun transfer. One time I used an FFL that only charged $20 per gun transfer but I had to drive out to his county home over hill and dale and back over a farm tractor road.

Has anybody here, or anybody you know of, had any FFL transfer delays for any of a number of reasons?

Also, my local gun shop is open 10-6 seven days a week except certain holidays. My local gunsmith only operates Monday - Friday 10-4 PM. The FFL guy out in the county operates by appointments only and I got delayed a day because he had a Masonic Lodge function.

I don't know what lawyer would really say or do in this case. Probably a small claim at worst. Well, reasonably speaking, shouldn't the gunsmith just transfer my merchandise over to another local FFL if he can't serve me in say, two weeks?

How long would others here wait before considering some some sort of legal resolve? Here is my advice to others here: use the fully-staffed local gun shop as your FFL transfer point and pay their price. The local gun shop hires a number of employees so there's the overhead the customer pays for service.

This is what I hate about the federal gubmint and it's Gun Control Act of 1968 signed by that lunkhead Johnson and the crafting of the ATF. Without that, new gun sales would be just cash and carry as it was in the Old West. Big Brother stifles the economy and free enterprise.

I just got an email offer from the VA for a free in-home COVID test kit. I just ordered mine. I'm going to start wearing that mask again religiously whenever I meet a person face to face close as mom-and-pop gunsmith at his counter. Joe has not waved his magic wand to make COVID disappear altogether. Those Demo dupes who voted for this jackass.

Don't be that guy, give your local gunsmith the time he needs to sort this out.
Someone once said, "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them,..."
Sounds like fair advice. Someone else said, "Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged;..."
I'm guessing you have other firearms available for protection so the only negative on you is inconvenience, and that doesn't sound so bad.

    Patience my friend.

I will be patient. But I don't think the man cant keep my guns forever without compensation to me. I hope he is not a scandalous crook. I will be sure to print out UPS proofs of delivery for my records. This is more about a consumer's rights issue than anything else.

This dude can't keep my guns forever. I hope is not some scandalous crook. I will have to go get my UPS proofs of delivery for my records. I have over $1,500 in firearms value at stake here. If this guy still blows me static after two weeks of my patience, I will contact the police about this.
