ammo for an old gun
I have an old break over 38 that I'm told requires 38 auto ammo. On all my google searching, I've found that 38 auto and 38 acp are the same. However a gunsmith has told me that that is not so. Please give me some factual guidance.

I think this will help. They are not interchangeable. 38acp is a rimless cartridge generally speaking made for a semi auto pistols. 38 S&W is a rimmed cartridge used in old revolvers and predates the 38 special, which was later modified to create the 357 mag.
