  JBOhio used one in CO elk hunting that worked well as a walking stick and it had a rifle rest on the top, he was resting his rifle on it when he shot a bull.

  The Primos Triggerstick will let you lean on it some, it's a decent monopod for shooting (took my deer off it on 10/10), and it's nice to steady your binos on.  I wouldn't call it a proper walking staff, but it is adjustable down to a strap-on-your-pack length.

  Thank you, that’s what I need to hear. What would you suggest? I picked up a stick and broke it on a tree to get a walking stick this weekend, I used it so much I had a blister on the base of my right thumb. 
  
  I have some limitations now but, Oh, I love walking in the woods alone!
  
  As I type, I'm thinking of professional painter's pole. Thick and heavy, but they'll hold their position when you need them.
  
  Does anyone have a good DIY mono stick?

  I have a couple of trekking poles that have the ability to unscrew the “head” and screw on a saddle for holding up the rifle.
  
  it’s kind of a copy of the old Stoney Point “Pole Cat” monopod that is no longer made. They work good for what they are… let me see if I can find the links

  I’ve owned a professional Bogen aluminum photography Monopod forever.  Turns out of a darn sturdy hiking stick that is height adjustable, solid as a rock and a formidable weapon if ever called upon.  It also has a screw on to that allows me to add any rest out there.  Right now I have a simple Y shaped affair and I forget who makes it but the monopods are all over eBay for peanuts compared to what they went for new decades ago.

  Thank you gentleman, I bought a trekking stick and head. I was at the LGS today and saw the Primos trigger. Nice idea fast and easy to adjust, and it would be a fantastic shooting stick, but I need a walking stick, you can't put any weight on it. The lock just aren't strong, and it collapses with little effort.

  I’ve used the Primos trigger stick bipod for a few years and have been happy with it. But, I mainly use it for handguns.  I have shot rifles off of it and it works fine. For handguns, I loop the wrist strap through the middle two fingers of my left hand with a two handed grip, rest the handgun on it and punch out to a normal shooting stance. The wrist strap just keeps the shooting sticks from falling to the ground when I fire.

  I liked the Primos trigger shooting stick. All you have to do is pull the trigger to release the leg to drop into position. A great idea and fantastic in the field, but it's not a good walking stick. I hunt some steep hills and I needed a walking stick I can lean on.

  I had one like that.  If I unscrewed the head, it would allow me to screw on my camera.
