Recommendations for Cooking Python, Kangaroo, and Alligator

JermanatorJermanator Posts: 16,244 Senior Member
I will eat damn near anything and my travels today lead me to a place that does killer smoked meats. I have a three pound jar of pickled venison baloney, and if it is good, I will bring some to the SE Shoot.

Anyway. They had python, kangaroo, and alligator. I have had alligator and it is pretty tasty. All three are very lean meats, I have about a pound of each. I want to know the best ways to cook them.

I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks.

We just split the snake and cook it whole over an open fire minus head and tail but that was rattlesnake. Never had python before as I kept quite a few of them as pets and still have one that I have had for close to 20 years. For me eating python would be like eating the family dog.
No, I do not have a pink fuzzy bunny fetish but apparently my Facebook hacking wife does.

Sounds like the beginning of a naughty joke, "A python, a kangaroo, and an alligator walk into my backyard while I am grilling........"

Even worse... I have already been walking around talking about people.... well... doing quite a few things with "my python". I just want to make sure that my python is delicious. That is all that matters.

....I don't know about pythons, but I read in an article that the Boa Constrictor can be cooked the same way you would cook a steak ....so I guess the python can be treated likewise

I just want to make sure that nobody gags on my python. I want to make sure that it is cooked right. I am thinking about doing a "game night" type of thing and since all three seems so lean, just do a basic seasoning with fast, hot heat (griddle or grill).

I didnt know you could eat a Python...............What calibre is it?

Wasambi was a great hunter who's prowess at feeding his village was widely known. His wife said to him one morning "Go and kill me a Boa constrictor, its my turn to host the village for dinner tonight.
Grabbing his bow and arrows, Wasambi headed out into the jungle and started hunting. A couple of hours later he came across a small clearing and saw the biggest Boa Constrictor he had ever seen hanging down from a tree. Taking aim, he sent an arrow across the clearing which passed completely through the Boa, then continued on and impaled a Pygmy, killing him and pinning him to a tree.
"Hau" he exclaimed. "I am indeed a great hunter"

He quickly field dressed the Boa, retrieved his arrow, threw the Pygmy into the undergrowth and returned to the village.
He then told his wife what a great hunter he was and related what had happened.

His wife then asked him what did he do with the Pygmy and he told her that he threw him away.

"You fool, why didnt you bring him back, I could have made Snake and Pygmy Pie"!!!

(If you know anything about english food you will get it)
Still enjoying the trip of a lifetime and making the best of what I have.....

    Cooking Python:
I would guess cut in small pieces, use Cajuin spices, and deep fry.
