Was in Law Enforcement for over 40 years including my MP years in the Army. My preferred rifle is the M1 Garand. The AR is good for in close fighting (house or building).
Loading an AR quietly is usually not necessary. Heavy bolt spring is good enough. Never
had occasion to use or need the forward assist. Modern day rifle simply does not need one, would lower the price of the rifle without. Having said that, my choice of an. AR would be a 9mm pistol caliber carbine.
