I need a scope. I've been shooting scoped rifles since I was a teenager, and have never had difficulty getting a good sight picture through one. With open sights, it's an entirely different matter. I need for my target to be still, and within 100 yards, maybe closer.
Add to that most of the game I've taken was between 100 and 300 yards, and you get the picture. I grew up hunting deer in open country, and close shots were the exception, not the rule.
For those experienced with open sights who hunt country where the shots are typically short, I don't disagree with the OPs position. It's just not for me.
I should add that I've also made my share of shots using a scoped rifle on moving targets. I don't think I could do the same with open sights.
